Discussion thread for all things concerning the 2010 preseason tests of the small classes.
Here are the scheduled tests in Spain. Some of them are private and limited to certain teams, but I'm not sure which ones. If you have any information on this, feel free to post it here and I add it to the dates. There could also be some testing going on in Portugal.
11th to 12 February - Valencia 14th to 15th February - Valencia 17th to 19th February - Catalunya 1st to 3rd March - Valencia 6th to 8th March - Jerez 27th to 29th March - Jerez

I assume that they'll participate in the Qatar test where the MotoGP guys are for the first IRTA test and then the second IRTA test will be the last one on the list in Jerez. At least that's how it would make sense. EDIT: The provisional started list for the Catalunya test from February 17th to 19th. 125ccTeam Bainet - Espargaró, Vázquez Ajo Motorsport - Márquez, Cortese Monlau - Márquez, Rins Aspar Team - Terol, Smith Team Andalucía - Moncayo Aprilia Junior GP - Tonucci, Morciano, Pontone, Bonati Moto2Stop & Go - Wilairot, Faubel, poss. 3rd rider G22 - Nieto, Guerra Promoracing - Olive, Noyes Team Pons - Gadea, Pons BQR - Rabat, 2nd and 3rd rider Italtrans - Rolf, Pietri Team Aspar - Simon, Di Meglio Forward Racing - Cluzel, Corti CIP Motorcycles - Tomizawa, Aegerter Kiefer Racing - Bradl, Leonov Motorsport 69 - Debon Tech 3 - De Rosa, Takahashi MVDS - Redding, Lonbois Interesting to see Tomizawa testing with the CIP team as the previous entry lists for the class showed only Agerter with the team.

I thought it was another Piaggio/Aprilia deal to get more manufacturers on the grid... But it sounds like they're making their own chassis from the Loncin... hopefully it won't be a screw up like that Haojue team

The scheduled two-day test for 125cc, Moto2 and Superbikes at Valencia basically fell through today due to the weather conditions. Not only was the track cold as heck (max temperature of just 5C°!), it was also wet. A bunch of riders and teams who originally planned to ride at Valencia apparently prudently stayed home to wait for Catalunya later this week where the weather conditions are supposed to be much better. The only riders out today for a few laps were Vladimir Leonov and Alex Hofmann on the Superbike Aprilia. Source: http://www.speedweek.de/art_10024.html

DORNA have issued a news release on the next test... Quote: The three-day test in Barcelona, which is scheduled to start on Wednesday, will bring together a selection of the Moto2 and 125cc entry lists at the Circuit de Catalunya.
A total of 42 riders across the new intermediate and 125cc categories – the maximum number permitted at the circuit – will be in attendance on the scheduled dates of February 17-19, and amongst them will be those who have regularly tested throughout the winter such as Julián Simón and Mike Di Meglio (Mapfre Aspar Team), Axel Pons and Sergio Gadea (Pons Kalex), and Yuki Takahashi and Raffaele De Rosa (Tech 3 Moto2). The likes of Gabor Talmacsi (Speed Up), Joan Olivé and Kenny Noyes (Jack&Jones by A. Banderas), Fonsi Nieto and Yannick Guerra (G22 HolidayGym), and Mashel Al Naimi and Yonny Hernández (Blusens-STX) will all also be part of the group of Moto2 riders present.
Amongst those not in attendance will be Scot Racing pair Alex de Angelis and Niccolò Canepa, and Italian rider Mattia Pasini (JiR Moto2). Toni Elías (Gresini) will also not be riding his Moriwaki prototype, but has said that it is his intention to be present to monitor the progress of his rivals.
In the 125cc class, title hopefuls Bradley Smith and Nico Terol (Bancaja Aspar Team), Pol Espargaró and Efrén Vázquez (Bainet Derbi), Marc Márquez (Red Bull Ajo Motorsport) and Esteve Rabat (Blusens-STX) are amongst those who will be riding.
To see a more complete grid of Moto2 competitors, observers will have to wait until the official Moto2/125cc test at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia, scheduled for March 1-3, when the Moto2 teams will also be supplied with the official 600cc Honda engines that will be used in the inaugural season in 2010.

First day of testing in Catalunya didn't start so well. Quote: Poor weather in Barcelona meant that the start of the first of a scheduled three days for Moto2 and 125cc riders at the Circuit de Catalunya was limited, with the majority of teams spending the morning preparing their prototypes in hope of dryer conditions.
Roberto Rolfo and Robertino Pietri of the Italtrans STR team were the only Moto2 riders to take their bikes out, with the former emerging from the team box at 11.49am on his Suter chassis. Rolfo completed just under 20 laps, expressing a good feeling with the bike towards 1pm when the action closed for a break.
“The feeling was good, even though the rain from the past few days hasn’t helped,” Rolfo told motogp.com. “I’m pleased at the moment, the bike is already improving and even though there were some small problems warming up, I have already found a good feeling. I’d like to try dry tyres, but this was my first time on wet Moto2 tyres and it was useful.”
He continued: “At the moment we’re not working on the chassis, we are just trying to find the right feeling with the bike on this circuit. We did a good job with the set-up in January, and we can do more with the chassis but we need better conditions to concentrate on that.”
Rolfo’s team-mate Pietri completed just two laps before an engine problem forced him back into the box.
Other riders present on Wednesday include Scott Redding, who is eager to make his first strides on the Suter chassis for the Marc VDS Racing Team but opted against going out in the morning. Redding told motogp.com that he is “really pleased with the team and cannot wait to complete the first laps on the Suter”, but he is also waiting for better conditions. EDIT: And motogp.com offers a free video of the first day of testing: http://www.motogp.com/en/videos/2010/Mo ... est+beginsEDIT2: From the sources I could find these are somewhat combined laptimes from today: Roberto Rolfo – 1.51.3 Shoya Tomizawa – 1.52.7 Dominique Aegerter – 1.53.4 Vincent Lombois – 1.54.4 Mashel Al-Naimi – 1.56.2 Sergio Gadea – 1.56.2 Axel Pons – 1.56.3 Scott Redding – 1.56.7 Yonni Hernandez – 2.00.2 Yannick Guerra – 2.04.4 Joan Olive – 2.05.8 Kenny Noyes – 2.08.7

The weather was a lot better than yesterday, so the laptimes are much better to interpret. But pushing the caution from riding in the wet aside it appeared to have been somewhat of a crashfest today. At least half of the field said Goodbye to their bikes at one point or another, but everyone was relatively unharmed except for Roberto Rolfo. The poor guy dislocated his left shoulder and won't be able to show up for the official IRTA test in Jerez at the beginning of March.

I just read on Sergio Gadea's blog, who expect rain tomorrow so, the majority, ending the test except to try the bikes out in rain.

Thanks for the info, Vane! So I guess there won't be that much going on tomorrow again?
Also, I just found out that Roberto Rolfo is actually not the only one to rule himself out of further action for the time being. Alex Debom apparently broke his collarbone. Unless he undergoes immediate surgery like Alvaro did last year I suspect he'll be out of the IRTA test as well.
Like we said elsewhere: There's plenty of opportunity for the riders to destroy themselves in the off-season...

Seeing that the laptimes are hardly comparable at the moment, this bit from motomatters.com is very interesting: Quote: Piecing together the information from a couple of reliable sources, the two Japanese riders - Tomizawa on the Technomag-CIP Suter and Takahashi on the Tech 3 bike - are the strongest of the field so far, with American Kenny Noyes on the Jack&Jones Promo-Harris not far behind. Tomizawa, Takahashi and Noyes are all using engines in a pretty mild state of tune, compared to others - such as Ant West, Julian Simon and Stefan Bradl - who are using Supersport-spec engines to help get their riders up to speed. Source: http://www.motomatters.com/news/2010/02 ... e_tim.htmlI can't wait for the test in Jerez. Should give us the first real sense of what we can expect this year in Moto2.

First real big test with almost every 125cc and Moto2 rider gets underway in Valencia tomorrow. And Honda has finally delivered the Moto2 engines to the teams. What's a tiny bit shocking though: Every rider gets exactly one engine - which has to last both official tests PLUS the first three races of the season. Really? Moto2 engines? New class engines? There are bound to be a s**tload of crashes, what do they do when an engine says "Sayonara!" after a crash?
