I'm thinking that Honda and TenKate have shot themselves in the foot building and developing the Moto2 engines for up to 40 rides. :ohno:

In the meantime however, Toni Elias has taken over the top spot in the Moto2 class before the track was closed for the Moto2 riders to leave the 125cc guys alone. As of now (4PM) the Moto2 guys will be out on track alone for an hour.
There are several guys who've not been out much yet or not at all. Also, paddock gossip has it that Team Scot with Alex De Angelis and Niccolo Canepa is dangerously short on cash and because they still have unpaid bills from MotoGP last year they've only got their engines very late today as a one-time exception. If they don't cough up the money before the next test, they're probably out of the game.
Sergio Gadea (Pons Racing) and Alex Baldolini (Caretta Technology Race Dept) suffered the only falls of the session. The Spaniard sustained a finger injury on his right hand which will keep his from riding in the afternoon session, scheduled to start at 4pm local time, and he is doubtful for Tuesday. Baldolini was unhurt.

And some more info on the new Moto2 engines:

Quote:
The 40 riders who will take part in the Moto2 category are today testing the new engines they will use in the inaugural season of the competition – the 600cc Honda engines prepared by Geo Technology – which were delivered to teams on Saturday.

The process of delivery of the engines was made by a random allocation, in which each team was assigned one of the 44 engines brought to the official Valencia test by Geo Technology. The Swiss firm, led by Osamu Goto, a respected engineer and designer who worked for Honda and Ferrari in F1, will be in charge of the preparations and maintenance of the new 600cc Moto2 engines.

Goto commented that the emphasis in the process of preparing the engines has primarily been on searching for power, reliability and stable performance, thus ensuring technical equality. He said: “The teams can work to adjust the injection, depending on the air intake or outlet they use, but if they follow the directions of HRC the variations of power between one engine and another will be minimal.”

According to the Japanese engineer: “The engines will be reviewed every 1500km, approximately every three races. It’s performance should be stable over this time, but it also depends on the strategies used by the teams, and how they treat the engine.”

To ensure that no team is tempted to manipulate an engine, which would undermine the competition, the engines are equipped with a series of seals, and will be controlled by the team directed by Technical Director of the Championship, Mike Webb.

“The four seals that block access to the essential parts of the engine will serve as a primary review,” said Webb. “But we also have access to the data, with which we can monitor everything to do with the engine and certify that the performance is in line with the established parameters and has not been tampered with.”

Oh, and someone really, REALLY, needs to tell Iannothing that he looks like a freaky child molester with that "moustache" thingy he's got going on there.
He probably should stop taking advice on hair from the lanky caveman. But at least someone sent him to a hairdresser and gave him a tube of hairgel.

Gadea has fallen and has become a wound on his finger, had to make three points to close the wound. He left the train today but he believes that tomorrow can get back out on track. Moreover, he is happy with the bike, says he is going very well. (I've read on his blog).

The second IRTA test in Jerez seems to be a total washout. Severe rainfall kept most of the riders hidden in their boxes and the forecast predicts even more rain for tomorrow and Monday. It looks like every single team is present in Jerez, upping the number of riders to almost 70, but they probably won't get much of their testing schedule done.
It's too bad really as we won't get any more interesting laptimes to compare, especially for the Moto2 class, and the teams will go into the first race still a lot of work to do. Bummer. :(

Dam. What an earth is going on with Scott there? Dam he seems to really be struggling with that bike. Glad Cluzel is still doing well there. Good for him. Dam Pasini 2nd to last? Something really must be wrong there.

At least Bradders and Danny have something for me to cheer about. Dam Danny's doing well on a privateer bike isn't he or is it a factory bike?
